The FSC label: Forest exploitation threatens the tropical forests, one of the biotopes containing the most in species on the planet. Biodiversity in the Northern hemispheres temperate and boreal forests is also endangered. To react against this deterioration and impoverishment of the natural ressources, various NGOs (Les Amis de la Terre, Greenpeace, WWF), certain professionals of the wood field and organisations defending indigenous populations created in 1993 the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a council for the good management of forests. FSC is a worldwide, non-governmental, independent, non-profit organisation, which has elaborated forest management guidelines. The fact that professionals of the wood industry respect these guidelines guarantees, among other things, biodiversity, the preservation of rare species, the respect of local people, the productivity and regeneration capacity of the forests.
